Podwal was commissioned by the Museum of Jewish Heritage to create a permanent installation of a wall of art on Denmark’s rescue of its Jews during World War II. This series was created on the occasion of the exhibition Courage to Act: Rescue in Denmark.

In Commemoration of the Danish Rescue illustrates the rescue of the Jews in Denmark during the Holocaust. This series features many symbols from this remarkable history, including a portrait of Christian X, King of Denmark at the time, who supported Denmark's Jews. Shofar Moon over the Great Synagogue of Copenhagen honors Jewish youth imprisoned in Theresienstadt, who planted a silver maple tree as an act of resistance. A cutting of that tree now grows beside the front door of this Museum. represents the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, when Copenhagen's Jewish community was warned of the Nazi plan to deport every Jew in Denmark.
