Mark Podwal (1945–2024) was one of the foremost American Jewish artists of his generation, earning international acclaim and awards for his evocative art depicting the Jewish experience and antisemitism.

For five decades, Podwal created an extensive body of work spanning fine art, illustration, film, decorative arts, and more than 40 books with renowned authors, including several with Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel. Selected commissions for major museums and institutions included The New York Times, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and The Metropolitan Opera, as well as Holocaust museums and historic Jewish sites.

Podwal’s work is represented in over 80 public collections worldwide, and his papers are held at Columbia University.
